My role
I'm Saskia, and I work at MCS as a Digital Communications Assistant. In my role, I manage both internal and external communications across our digital channels, including the website, email, and social media. My primary focus is ensuring our brand mission is clearly communicated: to give everyone confidence in home-grown energy.
My passions
Although it’s a slightly different issue within the sector to my work, I’m deeply passionate about sustainable fashion and conscious consumerism - interests that initially inspired me to pursue a marketing role in this industry. One of my favourite aspects of my current role is email marketing. I enjoy the balance of creativity and strategy it offers: from designing visuals and crafting compelling copy, to analysing data and curating relevant industry content for a segmented audience. What drives me most is knowing that my work contributes, in some small way, to a positive movement, not just to profit for someone at the top.
My career journey
This is my first role post sixth form, so I’m still very early in my career! After spending two years travelling across Oceania and Southeast Asia, I returned home with a clear goal: to begin a career in digital marketing. I was fortunate to secure a Level 4 Content Creator Apprenticeship with MCS, where I started as a Digital Communications Apprentice. Now, over two years into the role and having completed my apprenticeship, I'm passionate about raising awareness of the diverse, less technical career paths available within the digital sector. Although the industry remains largely male-dominated, there's absolutely space for more young women like me who want to make an impact and contribute meaningfully.
